Snow Day.......#9!

in , by Gavin and Kylie Plus 4, 5:00 AM
Nothing like another 5-7 inches of snow to result in another snow day!

That makes 9 snow days.  NINE!  I am starting to fear that we may still be in school on the 4th of July.  And guess what, we've got more bad weather heading our way this weekend!

We surrender, Mother Nature!

I feel like I am running out of ideas to do in our house all day long so we had a really low key, kind of boring day!

Gavin and I were downstairs working out when the alert went off on my phone that school had been cancelled.  I had a pretty good feeling that we would cancel but I got up and moving anyways.
Trynlee was up and crying by 5:30 so Gavin ran up and got her.  She joined us for the end of our workout and Gavin had her curling a 2lb dumbbell.
I clearly snapped more pictures of Trynlee throughout the day, partly because she didn't sleep very much.  All three of them were up before 6 so they all got a quick shower, and we were ready to start out day....at home..by 7:00.  We aren't ever ready this early when we need to leave on time.
Treyton went out to plow snow and the girls stood on his stool and watched the entire time.   They think they are pretty big stuff being able to see out the window.  Treyton's time is coming, too, when he is going to have to share his spot in the skid loader.
This little lady decided that she was done napping after only an hour. #sigh This resulted in taking some selfies.  It never fails that when I want to take a nap, someone doesn't cooperate.
We had to run to Walmart Tuesday afternoon and I snagged several Hasbro games for only $5.  I knew there was a pretty good possibility that we were going to be at home the next day and knew we needed some new activities.  Treyton is really into games all of the sudden so I let him pick out a few.  He is surprisingly good at this fishing one.  The girls also sat and played with it on the floor for a really long time.  They were thrilled that he was outside and didn't take it from them, and they just took all the fish out and then put them all back in...like a dozen times.

We also got the game Hi-Ho Cherry Oh! and played that several times during the girls' morning nap.
I threw together these Mexi Meatballs in the crockpot right after lunch for supper.  I make a lot of recipes from Shay at Mix and Match Mama.
I had had enough of being inside and the snow FINALLY stopped after everyone was up from their naps so we bundled up and went for a little walk.
Treyton has two snow shovels his size but Mya has snagged both of them at some point, and they are now laying under two feet of snow some where in our yard.
Tay and Tryn were thrilled to be outside (even though they don't look very excited) and were perfectly content just watching Mya and Treyton.
They recently have learned how to go up stairs, and we stopped to see Gavin at his office.  They immediately run to any open stairway now.  Taylor has mastered going down on her belly, and Trynlee still tries to walk right off of them.
After supper and getting the girls to bed, we played a couple of rounds of Candy Land, another $5 score.  I just love that he is able to play games now and actually understands the rules for the most part.  We've had lots of conversations about cheating, being a good loser, and sportsmanship in the last week. ;-)

Have a great day!!  I will be back tomorrow with some Friday Favorites!

Weekend Recap!

in , , by Gavin and Kylie Plus 4, 5:00 AM

Happy Monday!  We had a great weekend, and I am always sad when it comes to an end.  Thankfully, we had a workday on Friday so I am extra ready to go this week and my report cards are done!  #hallelujuh

ONE
We had a really low key Friday night and grilled some burgers, hung out, had early bed times, and Gavin and I got to watch some of our favorite shows.  We are fortunate to be able to keep our grill right outside our patio doors which allows us to grill all winter long.  Nights home as a family are some of my very favorite nights! #homebody

TWO
My cousin Dani got me in Saturday morning to cut and color my hair.  I always wait way to long to do this so I feel like a whole new person when I leave her salon.  Anyone else quiz their husband on what is different when they get home?!  Lol
THREE
Our kids hung out with my mom while I got my hair done and Gavin went coyote hunting with my dad.  It was nap time when we were getting packed up to leave and this little one may have thrown a bit of a fit and ran to his Paw Patrol bed.  When I went to chat with him, he was cashed out.
FOUR
Tay and Tryn are really starting to show their personalities and are learning new things each day.  While they still generally just parallel play, they really like to be by each other and occasionally fight over the same toy.  This diaper box was a hit all weekend long, and Treyton's tent is always one of their favorite spots to hang out.
FIVE
They got these little bikes for their birthday in November and are just getting tall enough and coordinated enough to ride them around the house.  Trynlee is so proud of herself. Ha!  I highly recommend both of them!  The yellow one sits a little bit lower but the pink one can be pushed and rolls easier.
SIX
The girls are just on the brink of out growing everything we own for them so I quick ran to Carters and Oshkosh to pick them up a couple of things to make it to Spring.
We also needed wipes as we were running on only the ones left in our diaper bag.  I have LOVED the Honest Company wipes since we had Treyton.  They are a bit more expensive but they are thick and just get everything wiped clean.
I put our beloved bottle warmers away this weekend (HALLELUJAH!) and grabbed a set of sippy cups with a straw.  They both have fought over Treyton's Munchkin one so I found a pink and purple one.  I have had the best luck with these ones not leaking.

SEVEN
Our weekend was filled with lots of board game playing!  Saturday night, Jamison, Payton, Gavin and I played Catan.  I'll be honest, I was overwhelmed with how many rules there were before we even started but once the game got going, it was fun.  It can definitely get competitive and there is a lot of strategy involved.  This and Ticket to Ride are currently my favorite games and I highly recommend them if you're looking for a board game.

We also played several board games with Treyton.  I absolutely love that he is getting old enough to play these.  Count Your Chickens is a cooperative game so there isn't one winner or one loser, which is kind of a big deal for Tman right now.  He thought it was pretty cool that we were all on the same team.  It required him to count as he moved the Mother Hen and then also as he put chicks in the chicken coop.  I think we played over a dozen times so I feel safe to say it is 3 year old approved.
I bought Farmyard Bingo from our teacher's lounge a couple of years ago and pulled it out today.  This one is also 3 year old approved!
EIGHT
We didn't get to "Pancake Saturday" on Saturday due to having to get up and moving but we certainly didn't miss them! :-)  These are the best homemade pancakes I've ever had.  I got the recipe from Babbling Abby and have made them just about every week since August...  I have been using whole wheat flour and they are just as good.
Pancake Recipe
-3T melted butter
-1 egg
-1.25 cup milk
-1.5t vanilla
-1/2 cup sugar
-1.5 cup flour
-3.5t baking powder
-1t salt

-I turn our griddle on to 350 degrees and wait to flip them until there are plenty of bubbles on the top!  My kids LOVE these!

NINE
Have I mentioned that I am ready for summer?  Like NO SNOW and 70 degrees?!  We got another like 6 inches of snow over the weekend and attempted to make the best of it.  All three of our kids love being outside--sunshine or snow piles...  Gavin got out the snowmobiles and Treyton and our neieces, and even the girls, went for rides and even got pulled behind the Ranger on the sled.
Good thing we have this young buck around! ;-)
Tay kept screeching while pulling the big kids on the sled so we went for a quick ride too.
Treyton would have rode on the snowmobile all day if we would have let him.
 Tay's turn for a ride!
 Trynlee's turn!
Mya was having the time of her life chasing the sled around.
And then everyone took a nice long nap! :-)
TEN
We rounded up our weekend with plates full of spaghetti, baths, and getting the house picked up!  I love getting the week started a bit ahead of the game.  I typically go grocery shopping on Sunday's but with it snowing all day, I ordered my groceries online after the kiddos went to bed and will pick them up on our way home from school tonight.  If you haven't ordered your groceries online before, you've got to try it!  It will change your life!  Lol!

Snow Day #8!

in , , by Gavin and Kylie Plus 4, 5:00 AM
Over the last 48 hours or so we have received 10ish inches of snow and therefore didn't have school yesterday.  As I write this, we already have a 2 hour delay for tomorrow.

The wind then picked up around noon yesterday and caused white out conditions.  We live on one of the bigger highways in our area and the cars were crawling last night!  The meteorologist on the 6 o'clock news repeated and repeated to stay off the roads, and reported that plows had been pulled from certain roads.  My fingers are crossed that we make it to school today.

While I know that I will have a different opinion in June when we are still in school, I have thoroughly enjoyed these spontaneous days home with my kids.  I keep making comments to Gavin about how wonderful it would be to be a stay at home mom but it doesn't seem to be working. ;-)

We spent a lot of our morning outside.  I attempted to take all three of our kids outside on the sleds but it was still snowing hard and there was so much snow that the sleds kept tipping over.  Trynlee was over it within the first 2 minutes and face planting in the snow a couple of times.  Treyton really wanted to move snow with Gavin so my goal was to pull them to where he was at.  We didn't even make it 1/4 of the way before I turned around.  Need a good workout?  Pull your kids around in a sled in 8-10 inches of snow!

We are fortunate to live next door to Gavin's brother and his family.  Our kids get to play together quite a bit which is fantastic.  Nate brought his girls over to sled down a hill in our back yard and asked if Treyton wanted to come out.  The twins were sleeping so I threw on some boots and a coat to snap some pictures.
These three love each other big time!
These two!  They're the same age and either play really well together....or fight like brother and sister!  He calls her "E" and he is the only one she lets do that.
Treyton finally got to move snow with Gavin and spent an hour or so in the skid loader with him.
He then came in and helped make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for him and the girls (and licked the knife more than I'd like to admit).  The girls demolished some raspberries as they waited...and apparently painted with them too.  She was so proud of herself.
I feel like Treyton has been stuck inside our house so much in the last couple of weeks that he has currently lost interest in a lot of his toys.  I browsed Pinterest for some indoor activities and found some that I knew he would enjoy and I had the supplies for.  The first one used some fine motor skills as he pinched little puff balls with plastic tweezers and sorted them into the matching circle.  This actually kept him entertained for quite a while and allowed me to get the girls changed (out of their pajamas) and down for their afternoon nap.
This second activity just required some garage door stickers and a sheet of paper.  He needed a little help on this as he doesn't recognize numbers yet and doesn't always have the most accurate one-to-one counting.  I helped him count the dots under each number and then he was able to place the correct amount of stickers in each column.
He made it 1-9 before he lost interest.  I count that as a win!
He requested one more activity before he laid down for his own nap and chose to use his painters.  We have used these for lots of similar activities and he never seems to get bored of them.  I just printed off some winter themed pictures meant to be used with these painter daubers
All the fresh air must have worn them out because they all took 2.5-3 hours naps.  After some snacks, I pulled out some birthday and Christmas presents that they haven't played with a ton.  The girls stood at the fireplace for quite a while and stacked and unstacked these bowls as I made supper.

And one last picture of Mya.  She brought about every somewhat dry piece of winter clothing still laying on the floor in the entryway into the living room.  Just adding a couple more things for us to pick up before bedtime.  :-)  She isn't allowed on the couch but I snagged a picture before I made her get down and give Treyton's glove back.

Sidenote...  If you'd like to follow me on Pinterest, you can click on the link off to the right or you can search for me and follow my boards.
I pray that you stayed safe during the snow storm yesterday if you are local.  Keep your fingers crossed that the roads get cleared and we make it to school around 10:30!

I'll be back tomorrow with pictures of my kiddos in their Valentine's Day shirts and details on how I made them.
